Gothic Whitby Abbey is a majestic ruin and significant landmark in Bram Stoker's Dracula, serving as the setting where Dracula's ship lands in England after a shipwreck. Author Bram Stoker visited Whitby in 1890, where the imposing, crumbling Gothic architecture and atmospheric clifftop location of the ancient monastery inspired him and provided the backdrop for key events in the novel, including Dracula's arrival and a famous scene involving the 199 steps leading to the Abbey.
