I’ve been inspired by this novel ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ by Arthur Golden to create a portrait of a young girl introduced into the geisha lifestyle of pre-World War II Japan. Her journey unfolds as she learns the refined arts of entertainment, navigating a landscape filled with jealousy, love, and the intricacies of social politics as she searches for personal happiness in a society that often sees her as merely commodity.
