Lowgill Viaduct was built in 1859 by Joseph Locke and John Errington for the Ingleton Branch Line of the London and North Western Railway. The 11 arched viaduct carried the railway over the valley of a beck, near the hamlet of Beck Foot, south of Lowgill, where there was once a railway station. The branch line closed in 1954 and the viaduct is now disused. It remains a prominent local landmark, which can be seen from the M6 motorway.
