I’m always shocked by the apparent spacial removal from and the simultaneous proximity to death within lives plagued by war. In childhood listening to my grandparents relating how, whilst casually pouring tea, a bomb would land in the road outside their house in Hull; and how my parent’s jive evenings in Dover could be interrupted by German shelling from across the Channel. So through to our present time and the yet more cruelty from modern technology. Why do we think we’re at all civilised?
