Uluru
Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is a massive sandstone monolith in the heart of the Northern Territory’s arid "Red Centre". The nearest large town is Alice Springs, 450km away. Uluru is sacred to indigenous Australians and is thought to have started forming around 550 million years ago
Aboriginal culture dictates that Uluru was formed by ancestral beings during Dreamtime. The area around Uluru was settled thousands of years ago, and although it was ‘discovered’ by the white man in the 1800s, Uluru and Aboriginal culture are very much entwined today.
The waves of sandstone plunge into the landscape. The area around the base is deeply mysterious to all who encounter it.
