Corten weathering steel, often called simply "Corten steel," is a type of steel designed to develop a protective rust-like patina on its surface when exposed to the elements. Unlike regular steel, which corrodes and weakens over time, the unique composition of Corten steel allows it to form this layer of stable oxidation. This patina protects the metal underneath from further corrosion.
